Lawsuit blames Norfolk Southern for delays

A federal lawsuit alleges repeated delays by Norfolk Southern’s Amtrak Crescent Route that makes a stop in Clemson and passes through Oconee County, as part of a one-thousand-mile route from New York to New Orleans.  The complaint alleges that under federal law, Norfolk Southern is required to give the Amtrak trains preference over freight trains.  But it’s said that 266 thousand Amtrak Crescent Route passengers last year experienced delays and that only one of four heading south made it to their destination on time.  New Orleans public radio WWNO quotes a Norfolk Southern spokeswoman as saying the company is committed to complying with the law.
