“Smart beds” to be placed in health system

Prisma Health says it is investing $41 million to replace inpatient beds with 1,500 Hillrom smart beds that will replace beds that are at the end of their life cycle. To be added to the replacement beds is a re-positioning technology that Prisma Health says will allow a caregiver to reposition a patient safely and comfortably in bed in fewer than 10 seconds.  Among the features: are a built-in USB port for a patient’s personal devices, a storage area for personal belongings, illuminated side rails, and an under-bed light.
