Traffic stop and the arrests of two Oconeeans
A deputy on patrol yesterday in a southern part of Oconee made traffic stop, which led to the arrests of two adult men. According to the sheriff’s office spokesman, a juvenile was in the stopped vehicle. The adult men arrested were identified as Tarran Shane Boggs, 22, of West Union and Laderrick Deonta Smith-Manley, 28, of Seneca. Here’s the account as provided by Master Deputy Jimmy Watt to 101.7/WGOG NEWS: “A Deputy assigned to the P.A.C.E. (Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement) team, on routine patrol yesterday afternoon on Highway 24 near Tokeena Road, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was reported stolen to the West Union Police Department. The vehicle that was reported stolen was a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. After observing the vehicle on Highway 24, the driver of the vehicle turned off Highway 24 onto Tokeena Highway and then parked the vehicle in a driveway. The deputy saw Smith-Manley exit the vehicle from the driver’s seat. After turning around, the Deputy then observed the vehicle leave the driveway, upon which the Deputy conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, the Deputy observed Boggs to be the driver. Based upon evidence that was gathered during the investigation, the Deputy learned that both Smith-Manley and Boggs had been driving the vehicle. Both subjects were charged with Driving under Suspension after the Deputy confirmed the fact that both Smith-Manley and Boggs has suspended driver’s licenses. The stolen vehicle was towed away from the scene and both Smith-Manley and Boggs were placed under arrest and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center. Both Smith-Manley and Boggs were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and Smith-Manley was served with a warrant for Grand Larceny on a charge related to a separate investigation.”
