Future electricity–“important matter for our community”

Kevin Bronson, city administrator, will ask Westminster City Council tomorrow to approve a letter that is ready to be sent to the Piedmont Municipal Power Agency.  At stake, is the city’s future power purchase contract as a member of PMPA, a consortium of upstate municipalities that derive electric power from a Duke nuclear reactor.  Bronson represents his city on the PMPA board.  The letter, to be addressed to the PMPA general manager Andy Butcher, in part, reads:  “We think it is prudent for our community to begin work now on new contracts so that we can properly plan for our Termination Effective Date.  Our objective is to begin work immediately in good faith to enter into binding commitments and agreements with PMPA (or some other entity that can assist us with this objective) relating to such new contracts….”
