25 medical kits donated to Oconee Sheriff’s Office

In about six out of every 10 police calls where someone is hurt, an officer is on scene before professional medical personnel. The Oconee Sheriff’s Office now has additional medical equipment for its officers to apply when they encounter victims with major blood loss. Courtesy of Anderson-based Tactical Medical Solutions, the Oconee Sheriff’s Office today received a donation of 25 “DOK” kits. DOK stands for Downed Officers Kits. Those kits have their origins with actual military battlefields. Tactical Medical Solutions, thru a partnership with the group “Cops Direct” is equipping law enforcement agencies across the country. One of the items is a bandage named for Tony Olaes, a soldier from Oconee County who was killed in the early months of Afghanistan fighting after 9-11. Underwood remembers Olaes well, as the two played youth baseball together in Walhalla. The donated medical items have an estimated value of $3 thousand dollars.
