2021 to be ushered in without local fireworks

Walhalla’s leaders believe their best bang for the dollar will be to allow New Year’s Eve to pass without a city-sponsored fireworks show. The city council squelched any plans to expend monies this year for a professionally-staged fireworks display which, if held, would likely have required or encouraged spectators to watch it from their cars due to the pandemic.  Libby Imbody, Main Street director, told the mayor and council that most downtown businesses on the night of Thursday, December 31 will have closed their doors by the time for fireworks and the event and wouldn’t be in position to benefit from the increased traffic.  Imbody urged them to think of the business community beyond the holidays, a period in which businesses tend to struggle to make sales.
