$2.3 million in cuts outlined

In the final months of another government year, Oconee public school officials are immersed in numbers—the financial kind and specifically how they mesh with the district’s goal to eventually balance their budget. By 2016-17, the goal is to even expenses with revenues. But, during a work session last night, trustees focused on the upcoming 2015-16 year and how to cut $2.3 million. Steve Hanvey, assistant superintendent for operations, sought to make clear that in spite of projected cuts in clerks, counselors, teachers and the like, “No one will lose their jobs.” He said the savings will come thru attrition, such as retirements or employees simply leaving the district’s employ at their choice.
