Winning mayor hints at sanitation service changes

A day after his victory in a four-way race, Walhalla Mayor Danny Edwards communicated that changes are possible in his city’s public works department. At a recent city council meeting, Edwards dropped a hint of what to look for. And yesterday the mayor elaborated, at the request of 101.7/WGOG NEWS. It’s possible Walhalla might limit its foray into trash pickups beyond the city limits. He said, “I have asked our administrator and street dept. head to look at our costs per mile for operations. While we may adjust our area of service, as to how much things will change hasn’t been determined. I would also like to see changes made to pick up trash and debris inside the city. We have a difficult time keeping CDL drivers, so the more routes we run, the harder it is to keep things on schedule. We just need to look at our services areas.”
