WILLIAM “BILL” POWELL

Westminster– William “Bill” Lewis Powell, 87, beloved husband of Patricia “Pat” Louise Spake Powell, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 5th, 2023 at Prisma Health -Cottingham Hospice House.

 

Born in Anderson, South Carolina, Bill was the son of the late James Calvin Powell, Sr., and Ethel Theola Jenkins Powell.  Bill retired from the trucking industry and enjoyed a long and well-deserved retirement. Bill was a United States Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean War and was a member of Chauga Baptist Church. Bill enjoyed music, especially hymns and gospel music.  His love for gospel music led him to his position as Choir Director, where he served for many years at Selma Baptist Church in Woodruff and Chauga Baptist Church; as well as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.  Bill had a passionate and dedicated love for God and he loved inspiring and teaching God’s word to the youth. 

 

Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 wonderful years; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

 

In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by his brothers, James Calvin Powell, Jr., and Jerry Jenkins Powell; and his sisters, Martha Gwen Spake and Ann Stepp.  

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Heritage Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with entombment to follow.  Bill will lie in state from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, prior to the service, at Heritage Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.
