William “Bill” Nelson

Seneca- William “Bill” Dayton Nelson, 86, husband of Sandra “Sandy” Dudley Nelson, passed away on April 26, 2020 at Seneca Health and Rehab.

 

Born in Oak Park, Illinois, he was the son of the late Percy and Frances Ivins Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a graduate of Purdue University, and then received his MBA from the University of Chicago. While attending Purdue, Bill was a catcher on the baseball team and was coached by the famous Hank Stram and Ray Schalk. Bill was an avid sportsman, a lifetime golfer and after meeting the love of his life, took up tennis. Bill was a United States Air Force Veteran, retired from Kinder Morgan as an engineer, formerly known as Peoples Gas Company of Chicago. Bill was an active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, where he loved his church and taught the Adult Sunday School Class for many years.

 

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra “Sandy” Dudley Nelson; sister, Gail Stern of Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, and was often referred to as the perfect uncle; and his beloved chocolate lab, Tripp.  

 

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Nelson and John Nelson and sister, Edith Novotny.

 

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Mr. Nelson’s may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Music Fund, 616 Quincy Road, Seneca, SC 29678.
