What the DOT has in mind for part of 2-lane SC 24

The South Carolina DOT has a game plan for improving traffic safety on a section of highway 24, the West-Oak Highway, not far from the Westminster city limit.  And most of the 20 people who signed-in at this week’s public information meeting at the Westminster Baptist Church indicated they are in favor of improvements that will focus on “run-off-the-road crashes.”  In its Rural Road Safety Program, the DOT is targeting what are considered the ‘worst of the worst’ roads in the state where 30% of fatal and serious injury crashes are occurring.  The improvements on 24 near Westminster would stretch from the Greenfield Road to the Fair Play Road.  But that stretch is only part of the entire section of 24 of 13 miles from the Anderson County line to the city of Westminster that has been identified for improvements.  Typical improvements would be edge line and centerline rumble stripes, wider and brighter pavement markings, brighter signs, wider six foot shoulders, improved clear zones, guardrails, eliminating vertical drop offs, and beveling of driveway pipes.
