Westminster’s only doc temporarily sidelined

As a general physician, Billy Campbell of Westminster has the duty to provide medical care. But if he had authority to make decisions on how to combat the virus spread, he’d require a lot more testing. Four Oconee County cases sounds low, but Dr. Campbell fears if more Oconeeans were tested that number would jump. “This business of not testing has been a critical failure of our whole system. We are flying blind. We don’t know how many cases there are,” he says. Campbell is especially important to his home community, where he is the only general physician. He himself was recently diagnosed with influenza B, which is considered to be the most minor flu. Still the flu required him to isolate himself from direct contact with his patients. That hasn’t stopped him from practicing telemedicine from his home. Nor has it stopped his nurse practitioners from providing care to patients at their Main Street office.
