Westminster gives its assent

To facilitate the move of the mayor’s cabin from Westminster city property, a tree-removal plan is required by Upstate Forever, which enjoys a conservation agreement covering property along the Chauga River. And this morning the city council gave its assent. Mayor Pro tem Rusty Cater said a unanimous vote was taken during a special meeting this morning, although Mayor Brian Ramey did not attend the meeting. Up to eight trees are to be removed. Cater says he believes Ramey will remove the cabin in section instead of completely disassembling the structure. The plan agreed to will require that the removal doesn’t impact the water in the Chauga or an area within 100 feet of the river.  This morning’s special meeting was held in a parking lot where, Cater said, social distancing guidelines were followed.
