West Union sewer talks

The Joint Regional Sewer Authority is in talks with West Union as to who would respond if there were ever an emergency involving the sewer lines in the small Oconee County town.  West Union’s workforce couldn’t handle a major problem. Because the town borders Walhalla, the thought at yesterday’s meeting of the JRSA board is that Walhalla would be the logical choice to respond.  However, as explained by JRSA attorney Larry Brandt, an agreement between the two municipalities expired.  Brandt and others recently met with Linda Oliver, West Union mayor, and the outcome of that meeting was a commitment for West Union to inventory its sewer holdings, including determining the number of manholes.  Brandt thinks the current number of West Union sewer customers could range between 47 and 78.
