Weekend traffic stop near Salem
A Newry man was charged with nine offenses after his car was stopped Saturday for a motor vehicle violation near Salem. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy found a gun, ammunition, and a quantity of narcotics inside a fanny pack-style bag. The Sheriff’s Office announced the following charges against Joshua Lee Byrd, 31 years old: trafficking in methamphetamine, unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, driving under suspension, habitual traffic offender, use of a license plate registered to another vehicle, operating a vehicle not registered, and operating an uninsured vehicle. Byrd yesterday remained jailed, with a surety bond set in the amount of $43,797.50.
