Walhalla to make mask announcement

Walhalla’s decision to implement a mask ordinance starting Monday has already produced a variety of public reaction.  Some of it comes from members of the local business community who simply want to know more about the provisions and how they apply to what they do for a living.  Sean Brinson, the police chief, this morning admits there are a lot of questions out there.  The city hopes to provide the answers with a public announcement that is likely to be made and received by 101.7/WGOG NEWS between now and 12:01 am Monday, August 24.  One of the components of ordinance is a $25 civil fine for those who the police see ignoring the ordinance.  But, at least for the first week, there will be no fines, just warnings, according to Brinson.  It’s the chief’s hope and that of the mayor and city council that people will obey and cooperate which will lead to helping stop the spread of  COVID-19 in the local community.
