Walhalla stretching its tentacles

Walhalla is on the way to expanding the corporate limits on the north side of the city, thanks to the mayor’s late parents.  On the recommendation of Councilman Josh Roberts last night, the city council gave first reading to an ordinance to annex eight different pieces of properties that belonged to the late Bob and Ruth Edwards.  Their son, Mayor Danny Edwards, disqualified himself last night to the discussion and vote, but afterward said that his parents’ estate would like to see the properties become part of the city.  The properties range in size from three-quarters of an acre and about 5.75 acres and are located on both sides of SC 183, the Pickens Highway, in the vicinity of Fairfield Grocery. The ninth piece of property, the near 2.5 acre site for the 9-11 memorial, is also to be added to the city limits.
