Wading through stacks of failsafe votes

Oconee’s board of registration and elections started the process this morning to certify Tuesday’s voting results in the county by evaluating challenged ballots.  The board members are meeting in the capacity of canvassers.  At the start there were stacks of votes at the table, and the board accepted failsafe votes from the Friendship precinct near Seneca.  A fail safe or provisional ballot is one cast by individuals who believe they are registered to vote but may lack proper identification or have an outdated address. The first five failsafe votes were accepted and added to Tuesday’s totals.  Because of the wide margins that most of Tuesday’s winners in Oconee enjoyed it’s unlikely that any outcomes will change. At the finish, the board is obligated to declare Tuesday’s local results official.
