Two sets of Walhalla buildings change hands

A realtor says two sets of core commercial buildings in Walhalla’s downtown are changing hands, and he’s encouraged that it looks like an example of old building preservation and conversion to new use.  John Powell of Powell Real Estate has given 101.7/WGOG NEWS details of what’s happening with the former Davenport Funeral Home building, as well as the nearby set of five shops owned by Prince Brown.  A woman has bought Davenport’s former Main Street location and is believed to be weighing ideas for what its future will hold.  Down the block a Highlands, North Carolina property group is acquiring five shops inside a building owned by Prince Brown.  Powell speculates they will be adapted to new use including the possibility of a café or a book store, or both.  The realtor is outspoken in the need to try to save what was built years ago, and these sales please him.  He once led a successful effort to save a former Main Street church parsonage.  The parsonage was re-located to an empty Main Street lot and is today the home of a city councilman and his wife.
