Tax sale attracts droves of bidders

Oconeeans are no different from other Americans.  They like a deal when they can get it.  That explains why parking spaces at and around Walhalla’s Center for the Performing Arts were packed this week with bidders for the annual Oconee County tax sale.  That sale, according to Corinne Poore, the delinquent tax collector, yielded total collections of $1.9 million.  In a report to Amanda Brock, county administrator, Poore reported 377 properties were bid.  One sold at the sale.  A total of 356 went to the highest bidders.  A total of 175 properties were received by the Oconee Forefeited Land Commission.  The three highest bids Monday yielded a total of $826 thousand.
