The University of South Carolina has officially named redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers the Gamecocks’ starting quarterback. Fourth year head coach Shane Beamer made the announcement Tuesday after Sellers came out of camp the projected favorite. He was in a position battle with Auburn transfer Robby Ashford, who will now serve as his backup, throughout camp. Sellers replaces former Gamecock and current New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler as the team’s signal-caller. As a true freshman in 2023, the Florence-native completed all four pass attempts made for 86 yards and two touchdowns, on top of adding 51 yards and a touchdown on the ground.  South Carolina will see its new quarterback in action when the Gamecocks open their season at Williams-Brice Stadium against Old Dominion on August 31.
