Seneca attorney wins seat on USC board

The Tenth Circuit representative on the board of trustees of the University of South Carolina will now be an Oconee County resident.  Emma Morris, a Seneca attorney, was elected today by a vote of the General Assembly at Columbia to fill the seat held by Anderson’s Chuck Allen.  According to a report by the Charleston Post and Courier, Allen withdrew his re-election bid only hours before today’s vote.  The newspaper quotes Allen, an attorney and former Gamecock football star, as saying lawmakers were angry with him because he voted against hiring former West Point superintendent Bob Caslen as USC president last year.  Members of Oconee’s state delegation apparently couldn’t be happier with the choice of Morris to succeed Allen.  Rep. Bill Sandifer said:  “Sen. Alexander, Rep. Whitmire and I strongly supported her (Morris).
