Roads, bridges–and school buses

At the annual public meeting of the Oconee Legislative Delegation, there was talk about roads and bridges—and new school buses on the way. State Representative Bill Sandifer, Seneca Republican, announced that the state has ordered new school buses and they are to arrive in April. The matter is one of urgency because some of the state’s oldest buses in the fleet are subject to catching fire. The dilemma of repairing bridges and fixing the state’s crumbling roads was almost an after-thought at last night’s meeting, but both Sandifer and Senator Thomas Alexander assured the audience that help is on the way. Sandifer says the General Assembly has the word of the DOT director that all counties will share in the money generated by the higher gas pump tax. And, according to Alexander, once the temperature rises you can expect to see repair projects underway.
