POLLY MERRITT

Seneca – Polly Morgan Merritt, 78, passed away on Monday, May 6th, 2024 at Cottingham Hospice House surrounded by her loving family.   

 

Born September 26th, 1945, in Davy, West Virginia, Polly was the daughter of the late Robert and Lizzie Stone Short. Polly was the Valedictorian of her nursing class in 1972 and later retired. Her greatest passion was writing, she was the co-author of three books and was known as the life of the party.  She was a volunteer for the Oconee Memorial Auxiliary, and the American Red Cross from 1997 to 2012, and won the Volunteer of the Year award in 2008. Polly was a member of the Earles Grove Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher.

 

Polly is survived by her daughter, Yvette Morgan Rochester (David) of Westminster, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Macy Rochester Whitted (Braxton) of Easley, South Carolina, Joshua David Dale Rochester (Amber) of Franklinton, North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Cooper Whitted, Ava May Whitted of Easley; sisters, Lola Hook of Salem, Oregon, and Linda Sue Phillips of Beckley, West Virginia.  

 

In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her first husband, Rodger Lee Morgan; second husband, James Merritt; son Rodger Dale Morgan; brothers James D. Short, Thomas E. Short, and Robert L. Short.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, May 10th, 2024 at Earles Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held 6 pm – 8 pm, Thursday, May 9th at Sandifer Funeral Home.
