Political trail leads to Oconee

Candidates and party workers  beat the political drum yesterday in at least three locations across Oconee County.  The Democratic and Republican candidates for the U-S House of Representative made separate appearances in front of friendly gatherings, including visits by Republican incumbent Jeff Duncan to party events at Chickasaw Point and the Lighthouse Restaurant on Lake Keowee. An account of what Duncan said at Chickasaw from Chickasaw Point resident and Radio Hall of Fame member Jim Bohannon is airing today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.  Duncan’s Democratic challenger, Seneca businessman Hosea Cleveland, addressed a socially-distanced, outdoor event at Seneca’s Blue Ridge Community Center.  Democrats waived large U-S flags at the Blue Ridge Community Center.  According to Jody Gaulin, the party chairwoman, that show was aimed at dispelling a myth that Democrats are not patriotic Americans.  Gaulin brought a U-S flag that she won in an essay contest titled “What America Means to Me” when she was a sixth grader.
