PAUL D. HANSON

Walhalla, SC– Paul D. Hanson, 74, passed away on May 14, 2024, in Seneca, South Carolina, surrounded by loving family and friends. Paul is survived by Robin, his wife of over 42 years; son: Ryan (Pam) Hanson; and daughter: Sarah (Adam) Turner; grandchildren: Jack, Hannah, and Will Turner; sister: Cathy (Keith) Moe; and brother: Doug (Betty) Hanson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Artis Hanson, and his brother, David Hanson.

Paul grew up in Argusville, North Dakota, and attended the University of North Dakota. While Paul’s early career in the restaurant industry moved him around the country, he settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where he and his family remained for more than 20 years. Paul’s passion and drive led him to earn an Executive MBA from Georgia State University and become a franchise owner of several Buffalo’s Cafes in the Atlanta area. Paul was an avid runner and completed the Peachtree Road Race and Atlanta Thanksgiving Half Marathon each year, often with his daughter Sarah trailing behind. Paul was immensely proud of his two children and was always eager to help Ryan and Sarah with their respective home improvement projects, secretly hoping for a reason to buy a new power tool or gadget. When Paul’s eldest grandson Jack arrived, he re-named Paul “Baboo” and from that moment on, no other title or role was more dear to him.

In retirement, Paul found joy in giving back to his community. He was active in Oconee County Habitat for Humanity, where he served on the Board of Directors, the Family Selection Committee, and–perhaps his favorite job–worked as a plumber on the construction crew. Paul hiked regularly with the Blue Ridge Ramblers, where he found and enjoyed not only the serenity of the surrounding mountains but also wonderful and devoted friends. He was passionate about travel and visited all 50 states as well as four continents. Although he loved history, travel, and nature, Paul’s most precious gift was his love for and devotion to his family. Paul will be greatly missed by all those who had the opportunity to know him.

A celebration of life will be held in Paul’s native state of North Dakota at a future date to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oconee County Habitat for Humanity Holzhauer Education Fund.

Davenport Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
