Officers of the Year recognized

Walhalla fire fighter Justin McAlister and police officer Jessica Sanders are regarded as characteristic of the best the city can offer.  The two were recognized by the city council as their department’s officers of the year.  Thanks to the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, Sanders and McAlister can look forward to a free meal ticket for a night out.  McAlister has roots in an Oconee family known for its devotion to fire protection.  Besides his Walhalla job, McAlister works part-time for Salem Fire-Rescue and he volunteers for the West Union and Keowee-Ebenezer departments.  Recently promoted to corporal, policewoman Sanders, according her boss, is a detail-oriented officer who exceeds responsibilities such as supervising, field training and managing evidence.
