Oconee’s war dead remembered in ceremony

Disagreements between Democrats and Republicans are at a fever pitch, but South Carolina’s senior senator says there’s one thing they agree on. And that, says Senator Lindsey Graham, is love and support for the nation’s military men and women. Graham keynoted the Oconee County Memorial Day ceremony. The annual ceremony pays tribute to the 210 Oconeeans who died in service to the country, as well as the hundreds of thousands of Americans who met the same fate. Graham says his 54 trips to Iraq and Afghanistan have proved valuable in the sense that he has a better understanding of war than that which is afforded him during briefings in Washington. In front of a home-county audience yesterday at the Walhalla Center for the Performing Arts, Graham pledged to be a better senator and make sure that soldiers know that the country “has their backs.”
