Oconee’s 9-11 memorial rated 90% finished

If you drive Walhalla’s Razorback Lane, and crane your neck, you get a good idea of the progress in building the Oconee County memorial to the 9-11 tragedy of the year 2001.  Brandon Shirley, a leader of the citizen committee and someone who has been intricately involved in the project since its conception, rates the contractor’s work at 90% finished and predicts that by the warming season, the public will have the chance to visit and see dirt and actual steel remnants from trio of U-S locations hit by terrorists’ hijacked jetliners on that fateful day 21 years ago.  The hallmark of the memorial is apt to be an eternal flame, memorializing those killed and injured, including a large number of public safety responders who risked their lives to search for those who were trapped.
