Margaret Harper of Oconee County is a former Red Cross volunteer who laments that the county is no longer home to a Red Cross office.  She recently told the county council that if the longtime local Red Cross director, Kathy Rogers, were still alive local suffering such as that which came with last year’s EF3 tornado and the continuing world pandemic likely would have been somewhat less if Rogers were still alive and working for Red Cross.  Harper is appealing for a united effort in Oconee to prepare for the likelihood of the next human tragedy.  She says, “Truth be known, no one can always be ready for any type of tragedy.  Sometimes things just happen, but there are things we can do to try to prepare for a natural disaster.
