New momentum toward a Westminster skate board park

Westminster skateboard enthusiasts left the city council meeting last night, having made an apparent good impression on the city’s elected leaders. Several of the skateboarders carried their boards into the meeting room to symbolize that the time is finally right for the city to permit a skateboard park inside the corporate limits. They were led by Marcelle Killian whose mother, Rolann Lee, started a skateboard park fund eight years ago. Killian asked the council to designate an area, perhaps in the parking lot at the municipal pool, for a free area where skateboarders could engage in their recreation activity. After Councilman Reid Adams raised questions about liability in the event of accidents, the council decided to allow the city’s administrator and attorney to research the idea further with the understanding that council will give the skateboarders an answer at its September 11 meeting.
