New funds for Stumphouse Mountain Bike Park

Walhalla Mayor Danny Edwards can look forward today to a check for $25 thousand, money that is to be applied to the continued development of the new Stumphouse Mountain Bike Park. The money comes from the Upstate Forever Land Trust, and a check presentation ceremony is to take place at 4:30 this afternoon at the trailhead for the Palmetto Trail. The new money is to match project funding Walhalla received from the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor Grant Program. Construction will expand the biking and hiking trails inside the park. The first four miles opened in May and included a 1.5 miles of the mountain-to-sea Palmetto Trail. The Stumphouse Mountain Bike Park is a collaborative project by Walhalla, Oconee County, Upstate Forever, Palmetto Conservation Foundation and other partners.
