Moving forward with the court system

A source in place to know tells 101.7/WGOG NEWS that word may arrive late this afternoon from the South Carolina Court Administration in the form of a directive on how the court system will proceed in the next few weeks.  Currently, there are no jury terms taking place for either General Sessions or Common Pleas cases.  General admittance to courthouses remains forbidden, with the exception of appointments to handle time-sensitive matters.  In the case of the Oconee Courthouse, Clerk Beverly Whitfield says, Clerk of Court workers have been busying handling support payments and requests for public defenders and other matters through the building’s drive-thru window which was re-opened as the pandemic was declared.
