Miracle Circle cameras temporary, DOT says

The cameras that peer down from the strands of traffic signals at Seneca’s Miracle Circle are only temporary, according to a local DOT official. They are there, as explained by Alan Adams, because of the ongoing 123 By-Pass paving project. The DOT’s resident construction engineer says, “These are temporary cameras installed to monitor traffic and keep it flowing while work is ongoing. During the asphalt milling process, it’s likely that signal loops in the pavement get cut, so we install these cameras to ensure traffic flows as well as possible. If these were not installed, each signal would cycle through and cause traffic on US 123 to stop regardless of whether anyone was waiting at the red light on the side roads. The cameras allow traffic to move freely on US 123 and only stop if cars are waiting on the side roads.”
