Michael Lee Cubbage

Funeral services will be held this weekend for a former MLB player, coach and scout who died last week in Oconee County. Michael Lee Cubbage died on Aug. 10 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, according to his obituary posted on the Mountain View Funeral Home website. He was 74.  He played professional baseball with the Texas Rangers, the Minnesota Twins, and the New York Mets.”  After playing, Cubbage coached in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets, Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox. He won World Series Championships with the Mets, the Rays and the Nationals.  After his 49-year professional baseball career, Cubbage retired with his wife, Janice, to Lake Keowee in Sunset.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, 309 East Cedar Rock St., in Pickens, South Carolina.
