L.D. “Rattlesnake” Mauldin

Salem, SC — L.D. “Rattlesnake” Mauldin, 92, husband of the late Ruth Campbell Mauldin, of 662 Stamp Creek Road, Salem, passed away, Friday, September 20, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital.

 

Born in Pickens, SC, he was the son of the late Louie and Margaret Kelley Mauldin. L.D. saw the United States through a windshield, he was a retired owner and operator truck driver. L.D. attended Stamp Creek Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the Tokeena Beagle Club and the Little River General Store early morning coffee club until closing. L.D. was a sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising beagles. In the 1960’s he loved dirt track racing and was owner and driver of # 21 and known as “Splutter” Mauldin.

 

Mr. Mauldin is survived by his daughters: Glynes Mauldin of Salem, SC and Phyllis Alexander of Salem, SC; brother: Tim Mauldin of Six Mile, SC; sisters: Violet Adams and Bonnie Holder both of Pickens, SC; and grandson: D. Alexander of Salem, SC.

 

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Mauldin was preceded in death by his brothers: Joe, Nathan and Wallace “Roho” Mauldin; and sisters: Eunice Saylors and Bessie Craig.

 

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Salem United Methodist Church.
