Jim Powell

Westminster – James “Jim” Raymond Powell, 70, loving husband of Gerri Grantham, passed away on Saturday, July 13th, 2024 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born September 24th, 1953, in Oconee County, South Carolina, James was the son of the late Paul Andrew and Betty Carolyn Mullinax Powell. Jim was a graduate of Wren High School. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and later worked as an electrician for Cashion Electric in Columbia, SC. Jim was a member of the Free Masons for over 20 years. But most of all he enjoyed antique and thrift shopping, eating out, and gardening with his wife Gerri.

James was kind and a man of character.  He will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his love of Skins Hot Dogs, Clemson football, Bees, golf, coin collecting and his collection of guns, knives, clocks and pocket watches. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Jim loved his family and would make a point to tell them that he loved them as often as possible. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him.

Jim is survived in legacy and missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Gerri; sons, Bryan Powell, Chris Powell; brother, Robert Powell (Sandra); his grandchildren; and a special niece, Heather Powell Taylor (Ty).

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his niece, Ashley Nicole Glover; and his beloved pet and best friend, Cotton.

His memory lives on with his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews especially in the heart of the “love of his life” Loralie Glover, from the day she was born. Who he spent many loving hours and not nearly enough 4th of July’s Hillbilly Days.
