James Furman Isbell
Westminster – James Furman Isbell, 82, husband of Rosa Lee Entrekin Isbell, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Cottingham Hospice House.
Born in Oakway, South Carolina, James was the son of the late Alexander Clyde Isbell and Veda Fendley Isbell. James graduated from Westminster High School and joined the United States Air Force where he was an Airman First Class under strategic air command. James later retired from Maxfli Golf and from Keowee Cleaners. James was a member of Westminster First Baptist Church where he served in the choir. He was a former choir director at Retreat Baptist Church, Parkway Baptist Church and a former assistant choir director at Clearmont Baptist Church. James continued his love of music as a member of Glory Road and the Damascus Quartet. Having a servant’s heart, James served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Brotherhood Director and various other positions of the church. James was and avid reader, especially world history, but his favorite book was the Holy Bible. To enhance his knowledge and understanding of the Bible, James took numerous classes.
James is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; daughter, Sheila Shatto (Roy) of Mill Spring, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his son, David Brian Isbell; brothers, Robert Isbell, Ralph Isbell, Melvin Isbell, Ray Isbell; infant brother, Daniel Isbell; and sisters, Sara Carnegay and Mildred Isbell.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at First Baptist Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, prior to the service at Sandifer Funeral Home.
