Hearing to assess the community’s needs

Regional government service agency workers tried this afternoon to take the pulse of the Oconee County public on a request for federal funds to address a utility need faced by the city of Westminster.  But no one other than a reporter and a county official took part in the public hearing conducted thru a Zoom meeting.  However, Jennifer Vissage of the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments (ACOG) says there’s still time (until April 16) for members of the public to complete a survey associated with the application.  That survey poses four questions, including the chance to rank the needs in the county.  In this case, in a joint application involving the county of Oconee and the city of Westminster, as explained by County Administrator Amanda Brock, would provide funds to pay for the upgrade and replacement of raw water intake pumps which serve as many as 2,500 customers outside the corporate limits but who are county residents.  A-COG officials say a separate needs assessment was conducted for Westminster.
