Handling mail during the pandemic

How safe is handling mail during the pandemic is a question raised by a 101.7/WGOG listener, who says he has seen or heard little about this.  We have a found a report that aired on ABC which quotes health experts as saying the risks are very low that COVID-19 will remain on envelopes or packages and in fact anyone who handles them.  They say, however, to avoid touching your face and wash your hands after handling any deliveries.  The network report quotes a microbiologist at Georgetown University as saying that tests by U-S government scientists found that the virus can live on cardboard for up to one day, but that was in a controlled lab situation and does not reflect what might happen in daily life or with other materials, such as envelopes.
