Gareth Alan Gerald Walmsley

Gareth Alan Gerald Walmsley, 80, died suddenly at his home July 7, 2024, and is now with the Lord Jesus. Born in Cardiff, Wales to the late Thomas and Peggy Walmsley, Gareth came to the U.S. in 1948, and grew up in Moline, IL and later, Venice, FL. After graduating Venice High School (1962), Gareth received his BS from Florida Atlantic University (1966), then joined his father and brothers building homes with Walmsley Construction Company in Venice, FL. Gareth met his wife of 53 years, Patricia “Pat” (Horton) in Venice, where together they raised their daughter, Selisa, and son, Kevin. In 1979, Gareth became a real estate broker in Inverness, FL, then retired to Seneca in 2008. An avid fan of NASCAR and owner of a late model, short-track, race car “OOJR,” he loved listening to classic rock and roll music. Gareth also enjoyed starting his day with long walks, kayaking on Lake Keowee, and a cup of tea on his porch with Pat. Throughout his life, he was active in his church, sharing his faith through bible studies and church programs. Complimenting his Christianity, Gareth is remembered for his smiles, laughter, joy for life, and spreading genuine kindness. Gareth is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat, and daughter, Selisa Daniel (Eric) of Pensacola, FL. He was lovingly known as Poppa, by his grandson, James Beville (Brandee); granddaughter, Kevanne Caster (Andrew); and great-grandson Austin Segree, all of Tallahassee FL and he was affectionately known as “Poppa Quack Quack; by his great-granddaughter Blake Beville, also of Tallahassee, FL. Gareth is also survived by his brother, Bryn Walmsley of Venice, FL. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Walmsley (1985); and brother, Robert Walmsley (2018). In lieu of flowers, his family has asked that those touched by Gareth’s life continue to spread kindness by donating to a charity of their choice. A memorial service, where family and friends can say, “Goodbye to Gareth” will be held Sunday, July 14, at 3 p.m. at Foothills Community Church, 505 Bountyland Rd, Seneca, where he was a member and hospitality volunteer.
