Forum moderator impressed by Walhalla candidates

Each of the five Walhalla city council candidates had their share of supporters at the forum last night, and the conclusion by the evening’s moderator is that voters next week will have tough choices to make.  At the start, with more members of the public still trickling in, the crowd appeared to be in excess of 100 in the spacious auditorium of the Center for the Performing Arts.  Some of the candidates had trouble fielding some of the prepared questions, but each appeared to succeed to get across their hopes, philosophies and the like.  The five are jousting for three available, four-year terms on the six-member city council.  In between opening and closing statements, moderator Crystal Romanyszyn of the chamber of commerce got in about 25 questions submitted to the Partners for Progress.  There appeared agreement among the five that improved utilities and better pay for the police are top priorities.  There was less consensus with Walhalla’s quality of life efforts which include events that bring in tourists and those visitors’ pocketbooks.
