First day Oconee school enrollment: 10,258

Lots of things change in Oconee County, but public school enrollment numbers appear to remain steady. Yesterday’s first day of school enrollment countywide finished at 10,258. And Steve Hanvey, associate superintendent of education, projects by week’s end total enrollment will jump by 270, to a number of 10,528. The county’s newest high school, Walhalla High, maintains top enrollment at 1,123. Of Oconee’s three middle schools, Walhalla reported the most students—866. In a breakdown of elementary schools, Seneca’s Northside topped them all with 650 students.
