Faye Williams Guy

Faye Williams Guy, of Seneca, SC, passed away on March 7, 2023, at Clemson Downs, Clemson, SC surrounded by her loving family. Faye was born on July 18, 1934, in Oconee County, SC to the late Hiram Jerry and Minnie Gambrell Williams. Faye was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Marvin Guy.

After graduating from Seneca High School in 1952, Faye attended the Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1955. As a registered nurse, she spent many years as a hospital nurse and then as a public health nurse in Oconee County where she did home health nursing and ended her career as a family planning nurse. During her 30-year tenure at DHEC, Faye received the Outstanding State Employee Award from the Tri-County State Employee Association and was recognized for Outstanding Services to Mothers and Children by the Appalachia I Health District of SC. She was a lifelong advocate for the healthcare of women, children, and the disadvantaged.

Faye was an avid reader and loved the beach, making yearly beach trips a family tradition.  In her words, “Being at the beach rejuvenates the soul.” Her biggest love was family, endearing her to her children, grandchildren, great-grands, nieces, and nephews. Faye was the youngest of seven children and was doted on throughout her childhood, which created a loving bond with her siblings and their spouses.

Faye’s mission in life was to take care of everyone, secondary to her own needs. Even as she lived in memory care at Clemson Downs, she was concerned about everyone around her, residents and staff. In fact, one nurse said that Faye “is a nurse in her every fiber and will be a nurse until the day she dies.” And that she was!

Faye is survived by two daughters, Mona Fleming of Pendleton and Jody Gaulin (Gary) of Seneca, and one son, Stan (Cheryl) of Jefferson, GA. She is survived by her grandchildren Jess Fleming (Liz), Paige Lowe (Tyler), Vince Gaulin (Ginny), Joseph Guy, and Marilyn Guy,  as well as six great-grandchildren, Ema, Jasper, Henry, Guy, Laurence, and Jane.  Faye is also survived by one sister, Edna McAbee of Pendleton, and one brother, Jerry Williams of Anderson. Besides her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Harold Williams, Mildred Rackley, Virginia Evans, and Evelyn Dilworth.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Sandifer Funeral Home with a private burial to be held at a later date.  The family will receive friends and family following the service at Sandifer Funeral Home.
