World of Energy to celebrate summer with free kids activities

SENECA, S.C. – Duke Energy’s World of Energy education center will host “Wednesdays at the World of Energy,” a series of free summer programs for children throughout June and July.

 

Each program starts at 10 a.m. and is geared for children ages 5 to 12. Programs last approximately one hour. Adult supervision is required. Large groups are required to call in advance to ensure enough space.

 

Program information includes:

  • Wednesday, June 5: Kick off the beginning of summer at the World of Energy by getting dirt under your fingernails! Kids can plant a flower in the butterfly garden and take seeds home to plant.
  • Wednesday, June 12: The Roper Mountain Science Center’s Science on Wheels presents “Scales and Tales” at the World of Energy! Kids will learn about the adaptations of three live animals and how they survive in their habitats.
  • Wednesday, June 19: Join the Wildlife Rehab Group of S.C. at the World of Energy to learn about rehabilitated critters up close.
  • Wednesday, June 26: Join us for a magic show with magician Steve Holt! This family-friendly magic show includes comedy magic, a ventriloquist and fun surprises.
  • Wednesday, July 10: Join the Pilot Club of Seneca and its famous BrainMinder puppets Gerald Giraffe, Penny Panda, Martin Monkey, Fiona Fox and more friends as they teach children interesting facts about the brain and how to keep safe.
  • Wednesday, July 17: Join Duke Energy volunteers for fun STEM activities. Slime, ice cream, exploding chalk and more.
  • Wednesday, July 24: End-of-summer blast! The Children’s Museum of the Upstate will bring its Imagination Playground for kids to enjoy in the World of Energy lobby. Additionally, face painters and balloon twisters will be there to celebrate.

Whether you’re looking to fill an hour or an entire afternoon, Duke Energy’s World of Energy at Oconee Nuclear Station can educate and enlighten. Many guests start their experience with the educational exhibits located inside our education center. From there, you can tour our butterfly garden or take a walk along our nature trail. Picnic shelters, located along the beautiful shores of Lake Keowee, are available for those who want to end their visit with an outdoor lunch.
