Dr. Ned Broward Lovell

Salem- Dr. Ned Broward Lovell, 86, husband of Carol Lovell, passed away on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024 at his residence.

 

Born July 27th 1937, in Ocala, Florida, Ned was the son of the late Napolean Broward and Minnie Lee Gruber Lovell. Ned earned his Bachelors degree from the University of Florida, Masters and his PhD from Florida State University. He taught at Tavres Elementary School in Tavres, Florida, Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, Superintendent of Schools in Leon County Schools in Florida, Professor of Educational Administration at Illinois State University, Professor of Educational Administration at Stetson University in Deland, Florida, Professor & Chairman of the Department of Educational Leadership at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi. He and his wife were members of the Peace Corps where they served in Nigeria.  He loved floating in Lake Keowee, playing golf, and having a winning streak in Canasta. He was a United States Navy Veteran.

 

Ned is survived by his wife of 60 years; his son, Ned Broward Lovell, Jr. (Jennifer) of Deland, Florida; Daughters, Claire Whitlock-Skinner (Trey) of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Katie Wentworth of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Shelby and Kalee Whitlock, James, Julie, Caroline Lovell, and Jackson, Christian, and Ashton Wentworth.  

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Loring Lovell and sister, Sonia Primm.

 

An open house will be held from 2-5 pm, Sunday, July 28th, 2024 at the residence, 323 Coveview Court, Salem, SC 29676.
