Culvert repair will require water line re-location

The DOT has identified a potentially dangerous highway condition near Westminster and is in talks with the city about a costly project to make repairs. And, as far as city administrator Chris Carter is concerned, it will add up to an emergency, “unplanned” cost to Westminster. Carter brought the matter up during discussion of what to include in the next city budget starting July 1. To fix the highway 123/Toccoa Highway culvert, the DOT wants to remove a slope by the side of the highway. But, according to Carter, the work is contingent on an agreement with the city to move a water line that serves 200 customers in the vicinity of an area called Dickson’s Crossroads. Westminster officials are concerned about their cost of the project and expressed hope last night that the state would help offset their cost.
