COVID-19 means changes at Oconee Courthouse

Received late this afternoon is this announcement from Oconee County on behalf of the county courthouse in Walhalla:  “In order to continue to provide essential services to our citizens and protect the health and well-being of both citizens and staff, the Oconee County Clerk of Court’s Office has implemented the following precautionary measures:

 Public access to the Oconee County Clerk of Court’s Office and the Oconee County Courthouse is restricted.  All in-person payments are accepted via the drive-through at the Oconee County Courthouse.  The Clerk of Court’s Office will maintain regular hours of operation Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  For additional information or assistance, contact the Clerk of Court’s Office at (864) 638-4280 or [email protected].
Emergency hearings will continue to be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as needed. Any hearings on non-emergency matters will be scheduled / rescheduled for a future date and time. The Oconee County Clerk of Court’s Office will be in communication with attorneys and parties to litigation regarding rescheduling. Continuances and extensions will be granted as appropriate.

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) was first identified in Wuhan, China. Over the past few weeks, the disease has rapidly spread in multiple countries, including the United States. The virus mainly spreads from person-to-person through direct contact or respiratory droplets. Symptoms of the virus include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
