Courthouse security will be beefed up with new cameras

County officials are hoping the Oconee County Courthouse will be a little more secure thanks to an upgrade to the courthouse security camera system thanks to a state grant. The County Council voted unanimously Tuesday to accept a $35,820 Justice Assistance Grant from the South Carolina Department of Safety Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs. The grant funds will be added to $14,818 left over from funding an X-ray machine and walk-through metal detector for the courthouse to fund the full cost of the $56,265, which also includes $5,626 in grant matching funds that will be paid out of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office’s budget.
