Council OK’s incentives to condo project developers

A package of incentives from Oconee County Council to the Lakeside Lodge developers is aimed at saving seven acres at Hartwell Village from annexing to Clemson. County Council returned from a closed-door session and approved the incentives, which were not detailed in the motion made by District Four’s Julian Davis and passed without objection. It appears that Oconee has bought some time in the process that could see an expansion of Clemson’s borders into Oconee County. That possibility has given way to the fear among many Oconeeans that the annexation of the seven acres might be just the start of a Clemson push into Oconee. The issue has dredged up memories from the mid 1960s when Oconee lost to annexation byPickens County of Clemson University, the historic Old Stone Church, and other properties.
